K/MADINA NATIONAL SCHOOL
Madawala, a Muslim Village, situated in the Central Province of Kandy District, In the Divisional Secretariat of Pathadumbara has a history of more than 300 years. It consists of Grama Niladhari Divisions like Madawala Madige, Leemaghadeniya, Paranaredhapola and Pitiye Gedara and about 10,000 voters who belong to Pathadumbara Divisional Secretariat. K/Madina National School, situated in Madawala, has a history which dates back more than 76 years. This prestigious school was found in the 1930’s by Matale Widanagale Gedara Abubakkar Luwwal Seiyadhu Muhammed, a social worker as well as a wealthy man who had revolutionary ideas within him. It was established on 02.12.1935 as a small school where now ‘Madina Furniture’s ‘is present today.
It was first started under the guidance of the first head teacher Mr. A.K. Subramaniam, with 3 teachers and 36 students as ‘Madawala Government Mix School ‘.
This school was affected by a flood that occurred on 16.05.1940. However, with a total of 261 students and 7 teachers, it was reestablished in 1941.
S.S.C classes were started in 1994. “Madina National School” started its activities in a new building in 1948 with 423 students and 15 teachers.
In 1952, this school was further developed into 14 classes as lower section and upper section. The dream of a girl’s school became a reality in 1958.
This school was updated as a Maha Vidyalaya on 23.10.1961. The first principle who was assumed duty, was M.Y.M. Muslim who was the head teacher at that time. Later, Janab T.B. Shani Muhammad, Janab F.R.T.T. Salfin, Janab B.M. Casim [for a short period] and Janab A.M. Muhiseen [J.P] assumed duty as principals.
A new building was gifted to the school by former Education Minister DR. Dassanayake in 1961 and by Mahroom Alhaj DR. Badi-Ud-Din Mahmood during which this school was showing its colours under the name “Madina Maha Vidyalaya”.
The school which was acting separately as a girl’s was connected with Madina Maha Vidyalaya in 1967. In 1968, both boys as well as girls were admitted for the very first time. Until that Janab Sithi Jaheedha Salsabeel, Janab Falooha Thahir and Alhaj S.R.M. Thaha acted as the principal’s.
This school became very popular island wide with the leadership of Janab S.R.M. Farook who acted as the principal for a long period of time [1968-1979]. It was his first appointment as the principal. During this period, Arts, Commerce and Science streams were started. The first university entrance by this school was in1971 and also co-curricular activities and education were commenced. A plot of land was taken in 1976 in order to build a ground for the school.
In 1980, the school was upgraded as a central college. It was the foundation laid by the leadership of Alhaj S.A.M. Farook which paved the way towards success to this school. Students were selected for cricket in all levels. Students were gaining best results in grade 5 scholarship examinations, G.C.E. [O/L] as well as G.C.E [A/L] examinations. Many past students, who came from all over the island to brighten their future at our school, have established themselves as doctors, engineers, accountants etc. While many are residing abroad in popularity.
In 1994, Madina Central College was upgraded as a national school. Mr.J.M. Munawwar was the principal during that time where the activity of the school was well established.
In 2003 English medium was started and a separate building was built was that. Physical resources were developed during the leadership of Mr. A.H.M. Siddeak, an old Madinian who was the principal from 1977 to 2008.
The largest and the best auditorium in this educational zone was built with the endeavor of former minister and the national leader of Muslim congress party Alhaj Rauf Hakeem. It was built in memory of all the people who sacrificed their lives in the election of 2001. The auditorium was named in memory of Mahroom.
M.H.M. Ashraff was opened in 2004.02.15.
ICT center of Madina National School was started in 2004.11.01. Due to this, the learning-teaching process of the student and the teachers were done easily and efficiently during the school time as well as during vacations as extra classes were conducted. During a period 66 more than 60 teachers, 40 graduates and 547 students have participated in extra classes.
In 2009 a bus worth 40 lakhs was gifted to the school by the leadership of old Madinians/PA members Alhaj M.M. Muzni, S.M. Mulafer, Father of Alhaj M.M.Rifthi, during the leader ship of E.M. Nazeer [2008-2010] through the co-ordination of M.R.M foundation.
The records kept by the students in extra-curricular activities are noticeable. Sports events, track events and group events in sports are some fields a sheer amount of Madinians have achieved, Azhar vs Madina cricket series that was established in 2008 is very important as this school has won the trophy three consecutive years.
Majilis, sports club, science club, arts and commerce unions are some unions that are being functioned successfully while giving prominence to education as well.
